Justice - just is
Can it really be about just one person’s word against another’s?
Can it really be about feeling bad, different or regretful about things that we had done to us in the past?
There cannot be justice without truth
That’s just how it is
Justice - just is
We all do and say things that we think or feel differently about many years or decades later
We all learn and grow from our experiences, good and bad
It’s called life
That’s just how it is
Justice – just is
The literal definition of the past is that it has gone by in time and no longer exists
But, if we judge the actions of others from the past that we didn’t complain about at the time are we not eradicating the past; are we not trying to destroy something that no longer exists?
Would we want our own past actions to be so judged?
Is this how it is?
Can we not just accept that justice – just is?
What’s driving the judgement of the past by the standards of the present?
Is it for revenge, because of shame, for compensation?
Is it caused by a craving for attention, for notoriety?
Why can’t we just accept that what is in the past no longer exists?
That justice – just is?
No one is suggesting that the past should never be revisited, nor that sleeping dogs should
always be left to lie
It’s not wrong to try to correct the harms and abuses of yesterday so that they no longer
persist in the today
But, where do we draw the line and how do we decide?
Should we live in perpetual anxiety about our past lives and the past lives of others?
Are we on a never-ending quest for correction, perfection or retribution?
Can we not, instead, focus on the injustices of today so that they don’t repeat themselves
tomorrow?
Can we not accept that justice – just is?
