'Dartmoor Shadow' by Sean Bw Parker
In 2024, Dartmoor Prison was closed, after almost 220 years, following radon gas leaks being found to have affected prisoners' health. The most altitudinal and remote prison in Britain, it is also the most notorious - holding first Napoleonic Prisoners of War, later the Kray Twins, and becoming one of the first 'integrated' prisons in recent years. Dartmoor Shadow is the 'positive space' companion to a larger 'negative space' canvas, intended to capture the blue-floored corridors, thick grey granite walls and foreboding atmosphere of an establishment built in a different societal age.
