Poem: 'Sons of Alison Saunders' by Sean Bw Parker

'Christmas at Dartmoor 2022' by Sean Bw Parker

Sons of Alison Saunders

The sons of Alison Saunders line up

Sitting hunched on Bauhaus chairs, furrowed brows

in black Listeners polo sweaters and blue pinstriped

visitors shirts

Swinging from the tree by the fishpond

at the back of the wing is a lanyard

Abandoned by a Samaritan or maybe a prisoner

released

‘Complainants never lie’

Says Alison, banging up thousands

of insufficiently risk-averse men,

up and down the land

Evidence is not needed with the balance

of probabilities; as the delicate balance

of reason struggled, gasping above

the Koy

Another dangerous man off the street

Another scalp in the culture war

The Oxbridge class of ‘69

or thereabouts, grinning with glistening

tears from behind the door.
