Innocent: Failed by the CCRC
(An alliance of those fighting for justice)
Demonstration
Where: Outside the offices of the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC)
23 Stephenson Street, Birmingham, B2 4BH
When: Friday 10th May 2024
Time: 2pm for 1 hour approximately.
Innocent: Failed by the CCRC, set up by the Jeremy Bamber Innocence Campaign (JBIC), is planning a peaceful demonstration outside the offices of the CCRC. This is to raise public awareness of the following issues:
Unacceptable time it takes the CCRC to look at the evidence of the wrongful convictions they receive.
Its connections to police forces, employees who are former police, and the potential bias this creates (the police, in effect, "marking their own homework".
Refusal to investigate cases properly and obtain relevant disclosure.
Refusal to pay for, or commission, forensic work (as happened in the Malkinson case and others).
Moving the goal posts on updates about their case work to prisoners.
Unjust refusals to refer to the Court of Appeal.
In Jeremy’s case, ten issues, containing brand new, multiple grounds of appeal were lodged with the CCRC on 10 th March 2021.
Three years later, they are only just looking at the third of the ten issues, and we are unaware of any meaningful disclosure that has been requested
or obtained.
We are aware that many other Campaign Groups and individuals are just as frustrated at the continued unacceptable workings of the CCRC, as well as the delays in righting miscarriage of justice cases and referring them back to the Court of Appeal. We are therefore inviting anyone who feels angry, frustrated, and unjustly treated by the CCRC to join us on this peaceful demonstration to raise awareness of your case, or the case you fight for justice for.
This demonstration will be filmed by an independent film maker, and the media will be invited to attend.
Please let us know if you are interested in attending so we know the number of people who
will be involved.
Feel free to also send this to anyone else you believe may be interested in attending the demonstration.
Thank you.
Sarah, Philip, Emma, Yvonne, Nicky, Jill, Jamie, and Simon (JBIC)
