L to R: The Beatles; The Rolling Stones
Looking back
Life was great when we were young
Loved our songs that we heard sung
Danced and laughed as if no tomorrow
Innocence ruined by coming sorrow
'My Generation' played The Who
Tattooed our love for what was new
Religion was The Beatles and Stones
Days not spoiled by mobile phones
Innocence married our sincerity
Nothing equalled our temerity
Dated lovely girls, rewarded with a kiss
But a snake was lurking with that hiss
Friends bonded closer than any blood
Sinning because it felt, oh so good
Years of joy we thought, never end
Heartache struck could we mend?
Wisdom came slowly, then unstuck
Friendships ended, what the fuck!
Then, love invaded our willing hearts
Invested passion, in all its parts
Some had children, and some got gold
Some had dreams and some got old
Others died, yet not in their grave
Others addicted, drugs their slave
Magic moments although rare
Kindness rules because we care
Our children listened as we spoke
Never knew our hearts were broke
Looking back am I glad or sad?
Most times good but sometimes bad
Each day a gift to appreciate
Yes, the sixties were, so truly great
