Brilliant, really well written and totally accurate.

You're quite right; technically and logically I should have taken a more sensible approach and should even, now, do so.

The problem being NOT that I feel "any publicity" etc - which I do to a degree but not in circumstances like these - but that the truth is crucial to me and I despise those like Mandelson and others (including Prince Andrew whose one correct statement was sticking to friends and loyalty) who walk the sensible and easy path, both betraying friends and the truth, so as to protect themselves by lying. Which, of course, goes along with the media road, is legally and sensibly the right way to go but offends me because they are essentially allowing self preservation to rule, by lying.

And incidentally never works. Media always turns on expressions of remorse.

At 81 this is not worth doing (as, indeed, it wasn't, for me, at 56). Better to take a different but honest path for one's life and career as I have done - and hoping that a few (I've always said - never more than 5%, even after death, like Oscar and Turing) will see the reality as you have done.

Sean [Parker] has always said I'll only get really famous after my death. I think he's right.

My hope is that I'll go down in history as having urged common sense so the millions of others, who will suffer far worse than I did, get acquitted and are seen as decent human beings.

And that I lived honourably by my own morality. As I think everyone should do even when, as happened to me, the society they live in makes stupid laws and has superficial media reporting, accepted and adored by the majority of lemmings.

i.e it's far more important to me to open a few eyes than to achieve the superficial (and impossible). Yes it's frustrating that much of my past success (provoked by past success) no longer happens. Nobody bothers to read my books or watch my films these days. But I had 56 years of success. Now I'm trying to succeed in a different way.

I remember, at the time, John said that NOT to get attention but because, at the time, it was true. Which he found shocking and stupid. Such things as my knocking Live Aid were NOT "to get attention" but because I genuinely felt the concerts, tracks etc were going to end (as they did) with MORE deaths as cash went into the pockets of corrupt officials instead of through legitimate charities like Oxfam and Save The Children. As proved 100% correct. And "doing a deal with the Devil", as Bob did, often turns sour.

Most convictions come through manipulation for various reasons and not through a search for truth. My one conviction illustrates that. I hope, by example, to open eyes to the reality. Eventually.
